week-long exhibition September 16-23

Taglialatella Galleries of New York and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS are pleased to announce a joint art exhibition featuring the works of two-time Tony Award winner Sutton Foster and artist Julien Havard. 

The exhibition will run September 16-23, 2013, at Taglialatella Galleries' New York City location, 231 Tenth Avenue (between 23rd and 24th Streets). A special reception with the artists will be held September 16 from 6 pm – 8 pm at the gallery. The reception is free and open to public, though space is limited.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the artists' work during the run of the exhibition will be donated to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.  For more information about the exhibition, visit the Taglialatella Galleries' site at taglialatellagalleries.com/exhibitions.

A five-time Tony Award nominee, Foster won the Tony for Best Actress in a Musical for Thoroughly Modern Millie in 2002 and for Anything Goes in 2011. Other memorable Broadway performances include Shrek the Musical, Young Frankenstein, The Drowsy Chaperone and Little Women. She most recently starred in the ABC Family show Bunheads.

Foster began exploring visual arts several years ago, inspired by Havard, who spent more than 10 years and six Broadway shows as Foster's backstage dresser. Foster has created ink drawings, acrylics and colorful works in mixed media. This summer she announced her 2013 collection of prints which reflect her sense of humor and attention to detail. Previously, she also created a line of theatrical holiday cards for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

Havard studied at Central St. Martins School of Art and Design in London and often created colorful ink drawings and murals depicting characters from the musicals he was working on. After more than 20 years dressing some of the biggest names on Broadway, Havard retired as a dresser in 2011 to focus on his artwork full-time. He has completed commissions for Broadway Cares, Dreamworks Theatricals and a long list of actors including Megan Mullaly, Delta Burke and Daniel Radcliffe.

Foster and Havard collaborated on a joint exhibition at the Provincetown Art Show in July and at the Hyannis Harbor Arts Center in 2011. Their influence on one another is abundantly clear upon viewing their collective works. Their dynamic and vibrant theater background bleeds into their art resulting in highly stylized bright colored imagery.
